UMG’s storied Mexican-music label Fonovisa-Disa, home to legacy releases by Alejandro Fernandez, Los Bukis and Los Tigres del Norte, has been rebranded as Fono, complete with a snazzy new logo and tagline: “Música, No Borders.”

The relaunch comes as música Mexicana continues to grow rapidly in Mexico and the U.S.
Fonovisa-Disa’s 40-plus-year history has seen, among other developments, a Duranguense movement, distinguished by acts like Horóscopos de Durango, K-Paz de la Sierra, Montez de Durango, Patrulla 81 and Trono de México, the promotion of cumbia legends Grupo Cañaveral and Socios del Ritmo and the elevation of important Mexican artists like Alfredo Olivas, Calibre 50, Edith Márquez, Enigma Norteño and Pancho Barraza.

“As a label, through our artists and their creativity, we have always sought to be storytellers and give voice to what many are not able to express,” said Alfredo Delgadillo, CEO/president of Universal Music Mexico. “With that, Fono proudly epitomizes the present moment, in which Mexican Music is growing, influencing other genres, inspiring world-class sounds and sending messages of unity and cultural pride. We are determined to continue uplifting Mexican culture through the voices of a new generation—artists who honor their roots while redefining the sound of tomorrow.”
Delgadillo will oversee Fono from Mexico City, continuing to report to Universal Music Latin America & Iberian Peninsula Chairman/CEO Jesús López.

Fono’s current roster includes 8onthebeat, Adriel Favela, Banda Los Sebastianes, Brandon Reyes & Elvin, Camila Fernández, Carolina Ross, Danny Félix, La Coreañera, La Nueva Ola de Cumbia, Los Rojos, Majo Aguilar, Moreno X4, Raymix, NXNNI, Octavio Cuadras, Sahir Montoya, Sam Vázquez, and Vivir Quintana.
