Ximena Arias-Cristobal, a 19-year-old student at Dalton State, was pulled over for a minor traffic violation and is now in ICE custody—separated from her family and facing possible deportation to Mexico, a country she hasn’t seen since she was four. Her father is also detained, and her family fears they’ll all be removed.
? Arias-Cristobal was arrested on May 5 after turning right at a red light and telling officers she had an international license but didn’t have it with her.
? She was transferred from local jail to ICE custody under a county agreement with federal immigration enforcement and taken to Stewart Detention Center in chains.
? Her father, arrested weeks earlier for speeding, is also being held at the same ICE facility. The family came to Georgia in 2010 and says they’ve paid taxes and built a life here.
