Man shot and killed during robbery of dominoes game in Paterson

A man was killed during a dominoes game robbery in the 4th Ward on May 11, one of three shootings in the city in a 28-hour period over the weekend, law enforcement sources said.

The fatal shooting happened near the corner of Rosa Parks Boulevard and Lafayette Street when three men robbed the dominoes players, sources said.

The killing was Paterson’s seventh homicide of 2025. At the same point last year, the city had four homicides.

The weekend shootings raised the total for the year to 18, compared with 25 at same time in 2024.

On May 10, a man was shot and injured at the notorious corner of Rosa Parks and Godwin Avenue, where drug gang activity has resulted in numerous gun crimes for more than a decade.

The second shooting on May 11 — a nonfatal incident — took place near 55 Madison St., the scene of two fatal shootings several years ago. Police sources said the area in Paterson’s 5th Ward has been a trouble spot for drug dealing and street violence.
