ORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. \u2013 Police arrested a Fort Lauderdale man on a sexual battery charge Thursday in connection with accusations from an acquaintance in 2023.
\nBrenden Lee Jones, whose name is alternatively listed in official records as Brendon or Brendan Lee Jones, is accused of raping the woman on Sept. 15, 2023 after the two had gotten into a car crash and she was hurt.<\/p>\n

According to an incident report from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, the woman, living at a Lauderhill homeless shelter, called that city\u2019s police department to report that she was raped \u201csomewhere behind the KFC\u201d at 3100 W. Broward Blvd.<\/p>\n

FLPD officers said they found no evidence of sexual assault there. However, court records show Jones, 40, lives three blocks due south of the restaurant in the Melrose Park neighborhood.<\/p>\n

According to the report, the woman told officers in an interview that Jones, whom she knows as the drug dealer \u201cTwin,\u201d had picked her up from a food store near Dillard High School and as the two drove, they were rear-ended.<\/p>\n

A friend of Jones picked them up after Jones fled the scene and Jones refused her request to be taken to the hospital, police said. The two men had to pick the victim up out of the vehicle \u201cbecause she was in pain and immobile,\u201d the report states.<\/p>\n

Police said the two drove back to Jones\u2019 house, even though the victim said she \u201ctold them to take her home if they weren\u2019t going to take her to a hospital.\u201d<\/p>\n

Authorities said she fell asleep in Jones\u2019 bed and awoke to him raping her, despite her telling him to stop.<\/p>\n

The woman told police that Jones made comments like, \u201cI can do what I want\u201d and \u201cOpen your f—ing legs, you made me crash my car,\u201d according to the report.<\/p>\n

Police wrote that through tears, she told detectives she felt \u201chelpless\u201d during the rape.<\/p>\n

Authorities said Jones\u2019 DNA turned up in rape kit evidence processed in 2024, leading to his eventual arrest Thursday.<\/p>\n

Florida Department of Corrections records show Jones has served time in prison for robbery, selling cocaine and escape.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
